MIDC Takes the Initiative for a Greener Future with a Tree Growing Project in Antipolo
MIDC, as aligned with its sustainability agenda, partnered with DENR-PENRO Rizal and Kabalikat People’s Organization in a transformative Tree Growing Initiative last December 6, 2023, at Sitio San Ysiro, Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City, Rizal. During this initiative, a total of 2,000 trees were planted, contributing to the reforestation efforts in the area.
This collaborative effort signifies MIDC’s commitment to environmental preservation and community engagement.
The Philippines is located in a region that experiences an average of 20 typhoons each year, with many making landfall and significantly impacting communities. In Rizal province, characterized by its mountainous terrain, the risk of landslides increases during heavy rainfall and severe storms. The steep slopes, coupled with intense precipitation, can lead to erosion and destabilization of the soil, posing threats to both lives and property.
Tree planting plays a crucial role in stabilizing soil and preventing landslides. The roots of trees help bind the soil, reducing erosion and minimizing the risk of landslides during heavy rains. By enhancing green spaces through initiatives like ours, we not only contribute to the restoration of local ecosystems but also improve community resilience against natural disasters.
This initiative reflects MIDC’s proactive approach to fostering a safer and more sustainable environment for future generations. By investing in the green future of our communities and planting 2,000 trees, we are taking significant steps to protect lives and livelihoods in the face of nature’s challenges.
